Benefits
Ultra-Thin Bond Line
With a thickness of only 0.25 mm, 5908 is ideal for compact electronic devices and precision assemblies requiring minimal bond thickness.
Permanent Structural Bonding
Replaces screws, rivets, spot welds, and liquid adhesives while creating a clean, invisible appearance.
Excellent Conformability
The viscoelastic acrylic foam conforms to slight surface irregularities and distributes stress evenly across the bonded area.
Wide Material Compatibility
Bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, composites, painted metals, and many engineering plastics.
Outstanding Environmental Resistance
Provides long-term resistance to UV radiation, moisture, humidity, chemicals, and outdoor weathering.
Waterproof Sealing
The closed-cell foam helps prevent water, dust, and contaminant intrusion.

Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are dry and free from grease, oil, or dust.
- Apply the tape using firm, even pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Validate performance before full-scale production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 4°C–38°C
- Optimum storage temperature: 22°C
- Relative Humidity: 0–95% (optimum 50% RH)
- Store in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Use FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
- Shelf life: 24 months from shipment when properly stored.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 5908 used for?
It is primarily used for ultra-thin structural bonding in electronics, automotive components, displays, signage, appliances, and industrial assemblies.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 5908?
The nominal thickness is 0.25 mm (10 mil).
What materials can it bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, composites, painted metals, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, and many engineering plastics.
Can 5908 replace screws and rivets?
Yes. It is engineered to replace many traditional mechanical fasteners while reducing weight, improving appearance, and simplifying assembly.
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. It offers excellent resistance to UV exposure, moisture, weathering, and temperature cycling.
What is the difference between 5908 and 5909?
Both belong to the 3M™ VHB™ 5952 Family and use the same modified acrylic adhesive.
- 5908: 0.25 mm (10 mil)
- 5909: 0.30 mm (12 mil)
5909 provides greater gap-filling capability, while 5908 is better suited for ultra-thin bonding applications.
