Maximum Gap Filling

The 2.3 mm acrylic foam core easily compensates for uneven surfaces and manufacturing tolerances.

Permanent Structural Bonding

Replaces mechanical fasteners and liquid adhesives while providing a clean, seamless appearance.

Excellent Conformability

The viscoelastic foam distributes stress evenly and accommodates differential thermal expansion.

Outstanding Outdoor Durability

Maintains long-term performance under UV exposure, moisture, humidity, and temperature cycling.

Waterproof Sealing

Closed-cell acrylic foam forms an effective barrier against water, dust, and contaminants.

Simplified Manufacturing

Pressure-sensitive bonding requires no drilling, welding, or curing, reducing production time and labor costs.

Installation Guide

  1. Clean bonding surfaces with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water.
  2. Ensure surfaces are dry and free from grease, oil, or dust.
  3. Apply the tape with firm, even pressure.
  4. Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
  5. Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
  6. Test adhesion before mass production, especially on difficult substrates.

Storage

Store the tape in its original packaging.

Recommended storage conditions:

  • Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
  • Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
  • Store in a cool, dry environment.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight.
  • Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
  • Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
  • Shelf life: 24 months.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is 3M™ VHB™ 4991 used for?

It is used for structural bonding in construction, transportation, appliance manufacturing, signage, electronics, and industrial assembly where thick foam and gap filling are required.

How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 4991?

The nominal thickness is 2.3 mm (90 mil).
