Benefits
Ultra-Thin Bond Line
At only 0.15 mm, 5906 is ideal for applications where appearance, tight tolerances, or limited assembly space require an extremely thin adhesive layer.
Permanent Structural Bond
Replaces rivets, screws, spot welds, and liquid adhesives while delivering long-term structural performance.
Broad Material Compatibility
Bonds aluminum, stainless steel, glass, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, painted metals, and many engineering plastics.
Excellent Conformability
The viscoelastic acrylic foam adapts to slight surface irregularities to maximize contact and bond strength.
Environmental Durability
Maintains reliable bonding under UV exposure, moisture, humidity, and temperature cycling.
Fast Manufacturing
Pressure-sensitive adhesive provides immediate handling strength without curing time.

Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of oil or dust.
- Apply firm, even pressure across the tape.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Verify adhesion with application testing before mass production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Store in a clean, dry environment.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
FAQ
What is 3M™ VHB™ 5906 used for?
It is designed for ultra-thin structural bonding in electronic displays, bezels, nameplates, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, and industrial assemblies.
How thick is 5906?
The tape has a nominal thickness of 0.15 mm (6 mil).
What materials can it bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, painted metals, and many engineering plastics.
Can it replace screws and rivets?
Yes. It is designed to replace many mechanical fasteners and liquid adhesives while reducing assembly weight and improving aesthetics.
Is it suitable for outdoor applications?
Yes. It provides excellent resistance to UV radiation, moisture, weathering, and environmental aging.
What is the difference between 5906 and 5915?
Both belong to the 3M™ VHB™ 5952 Family and use the same modified acrylic adhesive. The primary difference is thickness:
- 5906: 0.15 mm
- 5915: 0.40 mm
5915 offers greater gap-filling capability, while 5906 is ideal for ultra-thin assemblies.
Can 5906 be die-cut?
Yes. Guangdong Yousan provides precision die-cutting, kiss-cutting, laminating, slitting, and OEM converting services.
