Benefits
Crystal-Clear Appearance
The transparent foam core creates an almost invisible bond line, making it ideal for glass, acrylic, and polycarbonate assemblies.
Strong Structural Bonding
Replaces rivets, screws, welding, and liquid adhesives while improving product appearance and reducing assembly time.
Excellent Environmental Durability
Resists UV radiation, moisture, humidity, and outdoor weather exposure for long-term performance.
Conformable Foam Core
The viscoelastic acrylic foam adapts to slight surface irregularities while distributing stress evenly.
Waterproof Sealing
The closed-cell foam structure helps seal against water, dust, and contaminants.
Faster Manufacturing
Pressure-sensitive adhesive requires no curing or drying time, improving production efficiency.

Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces using isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure all surfaces are dry, clean, and free from grease or dust.
- Apply the tape with firm, uniform pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Test adhesion before mass production for critical applications.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 4905 used for?
It is commonly used for glass bonding, transparent plastic assembly, architectural glazing, electronic displays, signage, and decorative panel installation.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 4905?
The tape has a nominal thickness of 0.5 mm (20 mil).
Is 3M™ VHB™ 4905 transparent?
Yes. Both the acrylic foam core and adhesive are clear, providing a nearly invisible bond line.
Can it replace screws and rivets?
Yes. It is designed to replace many mechanical fasteners while improving appearance and simplifying assembly.
Is it suitable for outdoor applications?
Yes. It offers excellent resistance to UV exposure, weathering, moisture, and temperature cycling.
What materials can it bond?
It bonds glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, aluminum, stainless steel, painted metals, ABS, and many other high-surface-energy materials.
Can it be die-cut?
Yes. Guangdong Yousan offers precision die-cutting, slitting, laminating, rewinding, kiss-cutting, and OEM converting services.
What is the difference between 4905 and 4910?
Both belong to the 3M™ VHB™ 4900 Family and feature clear acrylic foam. The primary difference is thickness:
- 4905: 0.5 mm (20 mil)
- 4910: 1.0 mm (40 mil)
4910 provides greater gap-filling capability, while 4905 is better suited for thinner bonding applications.
