Benefits
Replace Mechanical Fasteners
Eliminates rivets, screws, spot welds, and liquid adhesives while creating a smooth, clean appearance.
Excellent Adhesion to Difficult Materials
The modified acrylic adhesive bonds reliably to powder-coated metals, painted surfaces, stainless steel, aluminum, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, and many low surface energy plastics.
Outstanding Durability
Maintains long-term bond performance under UV exposure, moisture, chemicals, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.
Superior Conformability
The viscoelastic acrylic foam conforms to uneven surfaces while reducing stress concentration caused by thermal expansion.
Waterproof Sealing
The closed-cell foam creates a durable barrier against water, dust, and environmental contaminants.
Faster Production
Pressure-sensitive bonding eliminates drilling, welding, and curing, reducing labor and assembly time.

Why Choose 3M™ VHB™ 5952 High Strength Tape?
3M™ VHB™ 5952 is considered one of the industry’s benchmark structural bonding tapes. Its modified acrylic adhesive provides outstanding adhesion to difficult substrates while the very conformable acrylic foam absorbs vibration, distributes stress, and compensates for thermal expansion. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor structural bonding applications across numerous industries.
Key advantages include:
- 1.1 mm very conformable acrylic foam
- Excellent adhesion to painted and powder-coated surfaces
- Bonds many low surface energy plastics
- Permanent structural bonding
- Waterproof sealing
- Outstanding UV and weather resistance
- Excellent vibration damping
- High peel and shear strength
- No curing time required
- OEM converting services available
Installation Guide
- Clean all bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease or dust.
- Apply the tape using firm, even pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Perform application testing before mass production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Store in a clean, dry environment.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
- Shelf life: 24 months under recommended storage conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 5952 used for?
It is widely used for structural bonding in automotive, construction, electronics, signage, transportation, appliances, HVAC systems, and industrial manufacturing.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 5952?
The nominal thickness is 1.1 mm (45 mil).
What materials can 5952 bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, painted metals, powder-coated surfaces, glass, composites, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, and many low surface energy plastics.
Can 5952 replace screws and rivets?
