Installation Guide
- Clean all bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease or dust.
- Apply the tape using firm, uniform pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Validate performance before mass production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
- Shelf life: 24 months.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 4941 used for?
It is widely used for panel bonding, stiffener attachment, decorative trim, signage, electronic displays, transportation equipment, appliances, and general structural bonding.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 4941?
The nominal thickness is 1.1 mm (45 mil).
What materials can 4941 bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, painted metals, sealed wood, composites, and concrete.
Can 4941 replace rivets and screws?
Yes. It is engineered to replace mechanical fasteners while reducing weight, improving appearance, and simplifying manufacturing.
Is 4941 suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. It offers excellent resistance to UV radiation, moisture, weathering, and temperature cycling.
What is the difference between 4941 and 5952?
- 4941 uses a gray conformable acrylic foam with a multi-purpose acrylic adhesive, making it ideal for bonding high- and medium-surface-energy materials such as metals, glass, and ABS.
- 5952 uses a black very conformable acrylic foam with a modified acrylic adhesive, offering better adhesion to painted surfaces, powder-coated finishes, and many low-surface-energy plastics.
Can 4941 be die-cut?
Yes. The PCK liner provides excellent dimensional stability for precision die-cutting, kiss-cutting, and automated converting. Guangdong Yousan also provides custom die-cutting and OEM converting services.
