Benefits
Thin Bond-Line
At 0.51 mm, PX5005 provides a relatively thin acrylic foam bond line for applications where component design requires reduced tape thickness.
Reliable LSE Adhesion
The ZX adhesive system is designed to provide strong adhesion to low surface energy plastics, including suitable PP/EPDM substrates.
Primerless Bonding Potential
For compatible substrates, PX5005 can provide adhesion without an additional primer or adhesion promoter, potentially reducing assembly steps and processing costs.
Excellent Conformability
The acrylic foam core can conform to curved and slightly irregular surfaces, helping increase adhesive contact.
Stress Relaxation
The viscoelastic acrylic foam construction helps accommodate stresses caused by movement, thermal expansion and differences between bonded components.
Efficient Assembly
As a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, PX5005 provides immediate bonding without the curing process required by many liquid adhesives.
Low-Profile Appearance
The thin construction helps maintain a relatively low bond-line profile, which can be beneficial for automotive trim and compact component assemblies.

Why Choose 3M™ PX5005?
3M™ PX5005 is a suitable choice when an application requires a thin acrylic foam tape with strong adhesion to difficult LSE substrates.
Its 0.51 mm construction offers the lowest thickness within the standard PX5000 Series while retaining the benefits of an acrylic foam adhesive system, including conformability, wet-out and stress relaxation.
Compared with PX5008, PX5011 and PX5015, PX5005 is particularly suitable when bond-line thickness, compact component design and a low-profile assembly are important.
The ZX adhesive also supports primerless bonding to suitable LSE substrates and compatible paint systems, potentially simplifying automotive assembly processes.
Installation Guide
1. Surface Preparation
Clean both bonding surfaces to remove dust, oil, grease, release agents and other contaminants.
The cleaning process should be selected according to the actual substrate and paint system.
2. Verify the Substrate
Confirm compatibility between PX5005 and the actual production substrate.
For LSE plastics and painted surfaces, validate adhesion under the intended application conditions.
3. Apply the Tape
Apply PX5005 smoothly to the first substrate.
Avoid stretching the tape and avoid touching the exposed adhesive surface.
4. Remove the Liner
Remove the protective liner immediately before assembly.
Handle the liner carefully to prevent contamination of the adhesive.
5. Position the Components
Align the second component accurately before full contact.
Avoid unnecessary repositioning once the adhesive has contacted the mating surface.
6. Apply Pressure
Apply firm and uniform pressure over the complete bonding area to maximize adhesive contact and wet-out.
7. Allow Adhesion to Build
PX5005 provides immediate holding power, while final adhesion continues to develop after application.
Avoid excessive loading immediately after assembly whenever possible.
For automotive OEM applications, validate the complete bonding process under actual production conditions.
Storage
Store PX5005 in its original unopened packaging under controlled conditions.
Recommended storage conditions include:
- Temperature: 4°C to 38°C
- Relative humidity: 0–95% RH
- Optimum storage: approximately 23°C ±2°C and 50% ±4% RH
- Shelf life: 24 months from date of manufacture
- Keep original packaging intact until use
- Protect rolls from dust, moisture and contamination
- Level-wound rolls should be stored horizontally
3M’s technical documentation specifies a 24-month shelf life when stored in the original unopened packaging under the recommended conditions.
FAQ
