Why Choose 3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape CP5108?
3M™ CP5108 combines acrylic foam technology with double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive to provide a practical bonding solution for industrial assembly.
Unlike conventional mechanical fastening, acrylic foam tape can distribute bonding forces across the entire contact area while helping accommodate movement between different materials. This makes it useful for applications where manufacturers want a clean appearance, simplified assembly, and reliable long-term attachment.
For manufacturers, distributors, and OEM customers, Yousan New Materials can further process 3M™ CP5108 into application-specific formats, including:
- Custom-width rolls
- Narrow strips
- Sheets
- Kiss-cut parts
- Precision die-cut components
- Laminated adhesive parts
- Custom packaging
Installation Guide
1. Prepare the surface
Clean the bonding surfaces thoroughly to remove dust, oil, grease, moisture, release agents, and other contaminants.
2. Check surface compatibility
Confirm that CP5108 is suitable for the actual substrate and surface coating. Difficult surfaces may require additional preparation.
3. Apply the tape
Apply the tape smoothly without stretching it. Avoid wrinkles, folds, and trapped air.
4. Apply pressure
Use firm and uniform pressure across the bonding area to maximize adhesive contact.
5. Remove the liner
Remove the release liner carefully and avoid touching or contaminating the exposed adhesive.
6. Assemble the components
Align the second substrate accurately and bring it into contact with the exposed adhesive.
7. Apply pressure again
Press the assembled components firmly to establish good contact.
8. Allow sufficient dwell time
Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives generally build bond strength over time. Avoid excessive loading immediately after assembly whenever possible.
9. Validate performance
For critical applications, conduct peel, shear, temperature, humidity, aging, chemical, and environmental testing using actual production materials.
Storage
Store 3M™ CP5108 in a clean, dry environment and keep it in the original packaging until use.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Protect from excessive heat and humidity.
- Keep the tape clean and dry.
- Avoid crushing or deforming rolls.
- Protect from dust, oil, and chemical contamination.
- Keep the product in its original packaging when possible.
- Follow the latest 3M storage recommendations for the specific product format.
FAQ
Q1: What is 3M™ CP5108?
A: 3M™ CP5108 is a double-sided acrylic foam adhesive tape designed for industrial mounting, bonding, and assembly applications.
Q2: Is 3M™ CP5108 a VHB™ tape?
A: CP5108 is an acrylic foam tape, but it should not automatically be described as a 3M™ VHB™ Tape unless the current official 3M product documentation specifically identifies it as part of the VHB™ family.
Q3: What materials can CP5108 bond?
A: Depending on surface conditions, it can be considered for metals, glass, painted surfaces, and suitable plastics. Actual substrate testing is recommended.
Q4: Can CP5108 be used for automotive applications?
A: It can be considered for suitable automotive mounting and assembly applications, such as trim and decorative component attachment. The exact automotive specification should be verified for the intended application.
Q5: Can CP5108 replace screws or rivets?
A: In suitable applications, acrylic foam tape can replace some mechanical fastening methods. However, the required load, safety factor, temperature, aging, and environmental conditions must be evaluated for each application.
