Why Choose
3M 1600T is a practical choice when an application requires a conformable double-sided PE foam tape with good initial adhesion and holding power rather than a high-performance structural VHB tape.
For converters and manufacturers, the combination of PE foam, acrylic adhesive and glassine liner also makes the 1600T family suitable for slitting, laminating and custom die-cut adhesive components.
As an industrial tape converter, Yousan can provide:
- Custom widths
- Custom roll lengths
- Narrow rolls
- Log rolls
- Die-cut parts
- Kiss-cut components
- Laminated constructions
- Custom packaging
- OEM / converting services
Installation Guide
1. Surface preparation
Clean the bonding surfaces and remove dust, oil, grease and other contaminants.
2. Check the substrates
Make sure both surfaces are dry and suitable for pressure-sensitive adhesive bonding.
3. Apply the tape
Apply 3M 1600T smoothly to one substrate while avoiding wrinkles and trapped air.
4. Apply pressure
Use firm, uniform pressure across the bonded area to establish intimate contact.
5. Remove the liner
Peel off the glassine liner without contaminating the exposed adhesive.
6. Assemble
Position the second substrate accurately and apply firm pressure.
7. Allow bonding time
Adhesive bond strength generally develops with time. Avoid unnecessary loading immediately after assembly.
Storage
Store 3M 1600T in its original packaging under suitable indoor storage conditions. Protect the tape from excessive heat, direct sunlight, moisture and contamination.
For production applications, follow the latest 3M storage and shelf-life recommendations for the specific product configuration.
FAQ
Q1: Is 3M 1600T a double-sided tape?
Yes. 3M 1600T is a double-coated PE foam tape.
Q2: What type of adhesive does 1600T use?
It uses a medium-soft acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive system.
Q3: Is 3M 1600T a high-temperature tape?
No. It should not be positioned as a high-temperature tape. 3M’s technical data lists a typical long-term temperature range of 70°C and short-term range of 82°C.
Q4: What thicknesses are available?
The 1600T family includes nominal thickness variants corresponding to approximately 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 mm.
Q5: What colors are available?
The 1600T family is available in white, gray and black variants, including 1600T, 1600TG and 1600TB configurations.
Q6: Can 3M 1600T bond plastics?
Yes. 3M specifically notes good adhesion and holding power to a wide variety of materials, including many plastics.
Q7: Can 1600T be die-cut?
Yes. The glassine liner provides good converting characteristics, making the tape suitable for converting operations such as slitting and die-cutting.
Q8: Is 1600T suitable for outdoor structural bonding?
It should not automatically be treated as an outdoor structural bonding solution. Application-specific testing is recommended, particularly where the assembly is exposed to weather, high loads, vibration or elevated temperatures.
