Installation Guide
1. Clean the surface
Remove dust, oil, grease, moisture, release agents, and other contaminants from the bonding surface.
2. Prepare the substrate
Make sure the surface is dry, smooth, and structurally sound. For difficult substrates, surface treatment may be necessary.
3. Apply the tape
Apply 3M™ 9080HL smoothly to the first substrate without stretching the tape. Avoid wrinkles and trapped air.
4. Apply pressure
Use firm and uniform pressure across the entire bonding area to maximize adhesive contact.
5. Remove the liner
Carefully remove the release liner without contaminating the exposed adhesive.
6. Join the substrates
Align the second substrate carefully and apply it to the exposed adhesive.
7. Allow sufficient dwell time
Pressure-sensitive adhesive typically builds bond strength over time. Avoid excessive loads immediately after application when possible.
8. Validate the assembly
For critical applications, perform peel, shear, temperature, aging, humidity, and environmental tests using the actual production materials.
Storage
Store 3M™ 9080HL in a clean, dry environment and keep the original packaging intact until use.
Recommended storage practices:
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Protect from excessive heat and humidity.
- Keep the tape clean and dry.
- Avoid contact with dust, oil, and chemicals.
- Do not crush or deform the rolls.
- Follow the latest 3M storage recommendations for the specific product format.
FAQ
Q1: What is 3M™ 9080HL?
A: 3M™ 9080HL is a high-adhesion double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive tape designed for mounting, bonding, laminating, and general industrial assembly.
Q2: Is 3M™ 9080HL a double-sided tape?
A: Yes. Adhesive is coated on both sides of the carrier, allowing two substrates to be bonded together.
Q3: What is the carrier of 3M™ 9080HL?
A: It uses a tissue/nonwoven carrier.
Q4: Can 9080HL bond plastic?
