Benefits
Improved Bonding on Low Surface Energy Plastics
Many plastics have poor adhesive bonding characteristics due to low surface energy.
Examples:
- PP (Polypropylene)
- PE (Polyethylene)
- TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin)
3M™ Adhesion Promoter 111 helps improve surface wettability and adhesive anchorage, resulting in stronger tape adhesion.
Increased Long-Term Reliability
Using adhesion promoter can improve:
- Peel strength
- Shear resistance
- Environmental durability
- Resistance to vibration and temperature changes
Especially important for automotive and industrial applications.
Reduces Adhesive Failure Risk
Without proper surface preparation, adhesive failure may occur due to:
- Low surface energy
- Surface contamination
- Plastic additives
- Mold release agents
3M™ Adhesion Promoter 111 helps create a more reliable bonding surface.

FAQ
What is 3M™ Adhesion Promoter 111 used for?
It is used to improve adhesion between 3M adhesive tapes and difficult-to-bond plastic surfaces, especially low surface energy materials.
Can 3M™ Adhesion Promoter 111 be used on PP plastic?
Yes. It is specifically designed to improve bonding on plastics such as polypropylene and polyethylene.
Is it necessary when using 3M VHB tape?
Not always. However, it is highly recommended for:
- Low surface energy plastics
- Outdoor applications
- High-load bonding
- Long-term durability requirements
How long should it dry before applying tape?
Drying time depends on temperature, humidity, and application conditions. A thin applied layer typically dries within seconds to minutes.
