Applications
3M™ 9490LE+ can be used in applications where the two bonding surfaces have different characteristics, including:
- Foam-to-plastic bonding
- Foam-to-painted surface bonding
- Fabric bonding
- Textile lamination
- Plastic component assembly
- Plastic-to-metal bonding
- Metal-to-plastic bonding
- Battery component bonding
- Gasket attachment
- Decorative component attachment
- Logo and nameplate attachment
- Electronics assembly

Why Choose 3M™ Double Coated Tape 9490LE+?
The main advantage of 3M™ 9490LE+ is its differential adhesive design.
Instead of using the same adhesive on both sides, 9490LE+ combines:
- 300MP+ → optimized for foams and fabrics
- 300LSE → designed for strong bonding to challenging substrates
This makes the tape particularly valuable for assemblies involving different or difficult-to-bond materials. The PET carrier also provides dimensional stability, making the tape suitable for laminating, slitting and precision die-cutting.
For a die-cutting and converting supplier, 9490LE+ is especially attractive for custom adhesive gaskets, mounting components, foam laminations and precision die-cut parts.
Installation Guide
1. Prepare the Surfaces
Clean both substrates thoroughly. Remove dust, oil, grease, moisture and other contaminants.
2. Select the Correct Adhesive Side
Because 9490LE+ is a differential tape, identify which side uses 300MP+ and which uses 300LSE before application.
3. Cut the Tape
Cut or die-cut the tape to the required dimensions.
4. Apply the First Side
Remove the appropriate liner and apply the adhesive side to the first substrate.
5. Apply Pressure
Use firm, even pressure across the bonding area to maximize adhesive contact.
6. Remove the Remaining Liner
Carefully remove the second liner without contaminating the exposed adhesive.
7. Position the Second Substrate
Align the mating substrate accurately before making full contact.
8. Apply Firm Pressure
Press the complete assembly to establish intimate contact between the adhesive and substrate.
9. Allow Bond Development
Allow adequate time for the adhesive to develop its final bond strength before exposing the assembly to demanding loads.
Storage
For best performance:
- Store in the original packaging.
- Keep in a clean, dry environment.
- Protect from direct sunlight.
- Avoid excessive heat and humidity.
- Protect from dust, oil and chemical contamination.
- Avoid unnecessary exposure of the adhesive to the environment.
- Follow the latest 3M documentation for applicable shelf-life requirements.
For production applications, storage conditions should be verified against the current 3M technical documentation.
FAQ
What is 3M™ Double Coated Tape 9490LE+?
It is a differential double coated PET tape featuring 300MP+ adhesive on one side and 300LSE adhesive on the other.
What makes 9490LE+ different from conventional double-sided tape?
The two sides use different adhesives, allowing each side to be optimized for different substrates. This is particularly useful for dissimilar-material assemblies.
