Benefits
Permanent Structural Bond
Replaces rivets, screws, spot welds, and liquid adhesives while providing a clean, seamless appearance.
Excellent Adhesion to Painted Surfaces
The modified acrylic adhesive bonds exceptionally well to painted metals, powder-coated finishes, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Very Conformable Foam
The viscoelastic acrylic foam adapts to uneven surfaces and compensates for thermal expansion differences between bonded materials.
Outstanding Environmental Durability
Maintains long-term performance under UV exposure, humidity, moisture, chemicals, and outdoor weathering.
Waterproof Sealing
The closed-cell acrylic foam seals against water, dust, and environmental contaminants.
Improved Manufacturing Efficiency
Pressure-sensitive bonding eliminates drilling, welding, grinding, and curing, reducing production time and labor costs.

Installation Guide
- Clean all bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, and dust.
- Apply the tape using firm, even pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Conduct production validation before mass manufacturing.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Store in a cool, dry environment.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
- Shelf life: 24 months under recommended storage conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 5915 used for?
It is designed for permanent structural bonding in automotive, electronics, transportation, appliance manufacturing, construction, signage, and general industrial assembly.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 5915?
The nominal thickness is 0.40 mm (16 mil).
What materials can 5915 bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, composites, painted metals, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC, and many engineering plastics.
Can 5915 replace rivets and screws?
Yes. It is engineered to replace many mechanical fasteners while reducing weight, improving appearance, and simplifying assembly.
Is 5915 suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. It offers excellent resistance to UV radiation, moisture, weathering, solvents, and temperature cycling.
What is the difference between 5915 and 5915P?
Both products use the same 0.40 mm modified acrylic foam and offer the same bonding performance. The primary difference is the release liner:
- 5915: Red PE film liner
- 5915P: Polycoated Kraft Paper (PCK) liner, optimized for precision die-cutting and automated converting.
Can 5915 be die-cut?
Yes. The PE liner provides good dimensional stability for die-cutting, while Guangdong Yousan also offers custom die-cutting, laminating, slitting, rewinding, kiss-cutting, and OEM converting services.
