Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces using isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are dry, clean, and free of oil or dust.
- Apply firm, even pressure across the tape.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Verify adhesion through production testing before mass production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Use FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 4936 used for?
It is used for permanent structural bonding in electronics, transportation, appliances, construction, signage, and general industrial manufacturing.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 4936?
The nominal thickness is 0.6 mm (25 mil).
What materials can it bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, composites, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, painted metals, and sealed wood.
Can it replace rivets and screws?
Yes. It is specifically designed to replace mechanical fasteners while improving appearance and simplifying manufacturing.
Is it suitable for outdoor applications?
Yes. The tape provides excellent resistance to UV radiation, moisture, weathering, and temperature extremes.
What is the difference between 4936 and 4930?
Both belong to the 3M™ VHB™ 4941 Family and use a multi-purpose acrylic adhesive. 4930 is 0.8 mm (30 mil) thick, while 4936 is 0.6 mm (25 mil), making 4936 better suited for thinner bond lines while maintaining excellent structural performance.
Can it be die-cut?
Yes. Guangdong Yousan offers precision slitting, laminating, die-cutting, rewinding, kiss-cutting, and OEM converting services.
