Benefits
Ultra-Thin Structural Bond
The 0.4 mm profile is ideal where minimal bond-line thickness is required without sacrificing structural performance.
Permanent Fastener Replacement
Replaces rivets, screws, bolts, welding, and liquid adhesives while creating clean, seamless assemblies.
Excellent Surface Conformability
The acrylic foam adapts to slight surface irregularities, maximizing adhesive contact and bond reliability.
Outstanding Environmental Resistance
Maintains long-term performance under UV exposure, moisture, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.
Waterproof Sealing
Closed-cell acrylic foam helps seal against water, dust, and environmental contaminants.
Faster Manufacturing
Pressure-sensitive adhesive provides immediate handling strength with no curing time required.

Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease or dust.
- Apply the tape using firm, even pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Perform application validation before mass production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Store in a cool, dry environment.
- Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ RP16 used for?
RP16 is designed for permanent structural bonding in electronics, transportation, appliances, signage, construction, and general industrial manufacturing.
How thick is RP16?
RP16 has a nominal thickness of 0.40 mm (16 mil).
What materials can RP16 bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, painted metals, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, and many engineering plastics.
Can RP16 replace rivets and screws?
Yes. RP16 is engineered to replace many mechanical fasteners and liquid adhesives while providing a clean appearance and reducing assembly time.
Is RP16 suitable for outdoor applications?
Yes. RP16 offers excellent resistance to UV exposure, moisture, weathering, and environmental aging.
What is the difference between RP16 and RP32?
Both belong to the 3M™ VHB™ RP Series and use the same multi-purpose acrylic adhesive. The main difference is thickness:
- RP16: 0.40 mm (16 mil)
- RP32: 0.80 mm (32 mil)
RP32 provides greater gap-filling capability, while RP16 is better suited for thin bonding applications.
Can RP16 be die-cut?
Yes. Guangdong Yousan offers precision die-cutting, laminating, slitting, rewinding, kiss-cutting, and OEM converting services.
