Benefits
High Shear Strength
3M™ Adhesive 100 is a firm acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive system designed to provide high ultimate bond strength and very high shear holding power. The 4016 construction provides strong holding performance for mounting applications.
Conformable Foam Construction
The flexible urethane foam carrier can conform to surface irregularities and helps maintain contact between the bonded surfaces.
Long-Term Holding
3M reports long-term holding capability at temperatures up to 104°C (220°F) under the specified conditions.
Vibration Damping
The urethane foam carrier helps dampen vibration, making the tape suitable for selected mounting and joining applications where some cushioning is beneficial.
Easy Converting
The tape’s densified kraft paper liner supports industrial converting operations, including die-cutting and automated dispensing.

Why Choose 3M™ Double Coated Urethane Foam Tape 4016?
High Shear Holding Power
The combination of the flexible polyurethane foam carrier and 3M™ Adhesive 100 provides high shear holding strength for demanding mounting applications.
Flexible Foam Carrier
The open-cell urethane foam can conform to surface irregularities and help maintain contact between mating surfaces.
Reliable Acrylic Adhesive
3M™ Adhesive 100 provides high ultimate bond strength, high shear holding power and good temperature and solvent resistance.
Vibration Damping
The foam construction helps dampen vibration and provides cushioning between assembled components.
Industrial Converting
The green plaid densified kraft liner helps support die-cutting and automated dispensing processes.
Versatile Mounting Solution
4016 can be used for a broad range of mounting, joining and holding applications where a flexible foam tape with high shear strength is required.
Installation Guide
1. Clean the Surface
Remove dust, oil, grease, moisture and other contaminants from the bonding surfaces.
For best results, the substrate should be clean, dry and free from contamination.
2. Prepare the Tape
Cut the tape to the required length or shape.
Avoid touching the adhesive surface after removing the liner.
3. Apply the Tape
Apply the tape to the first substrate and press firmly to ensure good contact.
4. Remove the Liner
Peel away the green plaid release liner without contaminating the exposed adhesive.
5. Join the Components
Position the second substrate carefully and bring the surfaces together.
Avoid unnecessary repositioning after contact.
6. Apply Pressure
Apply firm, even pressure over the entire bonded area.
Adequate pressure helps maximize adhesive contact and bond development.
7. Allow Bond Development
Bond strength increases with time as the adhesive develops its ultimate adhesion. Actual bond development depends on substrate, temperature, pressure and dwell time.
Important: For critical applications, validate the complete assembly under actual operating conditions before production use.
Storage
Store 3M™ Double Coated Urethane Foam Tape 4016 in its original packaging in a clean and dry environment.
Protect the material from excessive heat, direct sunlight, moisture, dust and contamination.
The 3M technical documentation should be consulted for the applicable shelf-life and storage requirements for the specific product configuration.
FAQ
Q1: What is 3M™ Double Coated Urethane Foam Tape 4016?
