Why Choose 3M™ Clear Transfer Tape TPM5?
The key advantage of 3M™ Clear Transfer Tape TPM5 is its transparent, carrierless adhesive construction.
For products where the adhesive should have minimal visual impact, a clear transfer tape can provide a cleaner appearance than conventional opaque double-sided tapes.
Its carrierless construction also makes it attractive for lamination, slitting and precision die-cutting, allowing tape converters to produce custom adhesive shapes for OEM applications.
For manufacturers, TPM5 can be especially useful when the requirements are:
Clear Appearance → Thin Bond Line → Flexible Lamination → Custom Die-Cutting
Installation Guide
1. Prepare the Surfaces
Clean both bonding surfaces to remove dust, oil, grease, moisture and other contaminants.
2. Cut the Tape
Cut TPM5 to the required dimensions or use a precision die-cut component.
3. Apply the First Side
Remove the release liner and apply the exposed adhesive to the first substrate.
4. Apply Pressure
Use firm, even pressure across the bonding area to maximize adhesive contact.
5. Remove the Remaining Liner
Carefully remove the liner without touching or contaminating the exposed adhesive.
6. Position the Second Substrate
Align the second component carefully and bring it into contact with the adhesive.
7. Apply Pressure
Apply uniform pressure over the entire bonding area.
8. Allow Bond Development
Allow adequate dwell time for the adhesive to develop its bond strength before exposing the assembly to maximum loads.
Storage
For best performance:
- Keep the tape in its original packaging.
- Store in a clean and dry environment.
- Protect from direct sunlight.
- Avoid excessive heat and humidity.
- Keep away from dust, oil and chemical contamination.
- Keep the release liner protected until use.
- Avoid unnecessary exposure of the adhesive surface.
Always follow the latest 3M storage and shelf-life recommendations for the specific TPM5 configuration.
FAQ
What is 3M™ Clear Transfer Tape TPM5?
3M™ Clear Transfer Tape TPM5 is a transparent, carrierless adhesive transfer tape designed for clear bonding, lamination and mounting applications.
Is TPM5 transparent?
Yes. TPM5 is designed as a clear transfer tape, making it suitable for applications where adhesive visibility needs to be minimized.
Does TPM5 have a carrier?
No. It is an adhesive transfer tape and therefore does not use a PET, tissue, foam or nonwoven carrier.
What can TPM5 be used for?
Potential applications include film lamination, transparent plastic bonding, graphic assembly, display components, decorative parts, labels and general industrial assembly.
Can TPM5 be die-cut?
Yes. Adhesive transfer tapes can be converted into custom shapes and precision die-cut adhesive components.
Can TPM5 bond plastic?
It can be considered for a range of plastic substrates, but actual adhesion depends heavily on the specific plastic and surface condition. Testing with the actual production substrate is recommended.
Can TPM5 be used on glass?
Clear transfer tape can be useful for glass bonding applications, provided the adhesive and substrate combination has been validated for the required load and environmental conditions.
Is TPM5 suitable for outdoor applications?
Outdoor suitability depends on the exact TPM5 construction and the environmental conditions. For UV, moisture and temperature-critical applications, the current 3M technical documentation should be reviewed before selection.
What is the difference between clear transfer tape and clear double-sided PET tape?
A clear transfer tape is carrierless, while a clear PET double-sided tape uses a transparent PET film carrier. A PET carrier generally provides greater dimensional stability, while a carrierless transfer tape can provide a more flexible adhesive interface.
Can Yousan supply TPM5 in custom widths?
Custom converting options such as slitting, laminating and die-cutting can be considered depending on the required specification, width, quantity and application.
