Benefits
Permanent Structural Bonding
Replaces rivets, screws, spot welds, and liquid adhesives while providing a clean, seamless appearance.
Excellent Conformability
The viscoelastic acrylic foam conforms to irregular or slightly mismatched surfaces, distributing stress evenly across the bond line.
Broad Material Compatibility
Provides reliable bonding to aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, composites, painted metals, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, and many coated or engineered plastics.
Outstanding Environmental Resistance
Delivers long-term performance under UV exposure, moisture, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.
Waterproof Sealing
The closed-cell acrylic foam helps seal against water, dust, and contaminants.
Increased Manufacturing Efficiency
Pressure-sensitive adhesive technology eliminates drilling, welding, grinding, and curing, simplifying production processes.

Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
- Ensure all substrates are clean, dry, and free from grease or dust.
- Apply the tape using firm, even pressure.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Conduct application testing before full-scale production.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Store in a clean, dry environment.
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
- Shelf life: 24 months under recommended conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ 5930 used for?
It is commonly used for structural bonding of decorative trim, panels, nameplates, electronic displays, appliances, transportation components, signage, and industrial assemblies.
How thick is 3M™ VHB™ 5930?
The nominal thickness is 0.8 mm (32 mil).
What materials can 5930 bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, composites, painted metals, ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, and many powder-coated and engineered plastic surfaces.
Can 5930 replace screws and rivets?
Yes. It is engineered to replace many traditional mechanical fasteners while improving aesthetics and reducing assembly time.
Is 5930 suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. It provides excellent resistance to UV exposure, moisture, weathering, and temperature cycling for long-term indoor and outdoor applications.
What is the difference between 5930 and 5952?
Both belong to the 3M™ VHB™ 5952 Family and use the same modified acrylic adhesive with a very conformable foam core.
- 5930: 0.8 mm (32 mil) thickness, ideal for thinner bond lines.
- 5952: 1.1 mm (45 mil) thickness, offering greater gap-filling capability for uneven surfaces.
