Installation Guide
- Clean bonding surfaces using isopropyl alcohol.
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or oil.
- Apply firm, even pressure across the entire bonding area.
- Avoid repositioning after initial contact.
- Approximately 50% bond strength develops after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours, and 100% after 72 hours at room temperature.
- Perform production validation before mass manufacturing.
Storage
Store the tape in its original packaging.
Recommended storage conditions:
- Temperature: 16°C–27°C (60°F–80°F)
- Relative Humidity: 40%–60%
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
- Store in a cool, dry environment.
- Store rolls horizontally whenever possible.
- Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is 3M™ VHB™ RP32 used for?
It is designed for permanent structural bonding in automotive, electronics, appliances, construction, transportation, signage, and industrial manufacturing.
How thick is RP32?
The tape has a nominal thickness of 0.80 mm (32 mil).
What materials can RP32 bond?
It bonds aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, glass, painted metals, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, and many engineering plastics.
Can RP32 replace rivets and screws?
Yes. RP32 is engineered to replace many mechanical fasteners and liquid adhesives while improving appearance and reducing assembly time.
Is RP32 suitable for outdoor applications?
Yes. It offers excellent resistance to UV exposure, weathering, moisture, and many industrial chemicals.
What is the difference between RP32 and RP32F?
Both tapes use the same acrylic foam and adhesive system. The difference is the liner:
- RP32: White densified kraft paper liner
- RP32F: Red polyethylene (PE) film liner, preferred for automated converting and precision die-cutting.
Can RP32 be die-cut?
Yes. Guangdong Yousan provides precision slitting, laminating, die-cutting, rewinding, kiss-cutting, and OEM converting services.
How does RP32 compare with 3M™ VHB™ 5952?
RP32 uses a multi-purpose acrylic adhesive and is optimized for general industrial bonding. 3M™ VHB™ 5952 uses a modified acrylic adhesive, offering improved adhesion to many low-surface-energy plastics and powder-coated surfaces. Choose RP32 for general structural bonding and 5952 for more challenging substrates.
