Why Choose

3M™ Paper Tape 2214 provides an economical solution for applications that do not require premium high-temperature masking performance. Its crepe paper backing provides conformability and hand tearability, while the rubber adhesive provides quick stick and moderate adhesion.

For applications requiring paint-bake or substantially higher temperature resistance, 2214 should not be positioned as a high-temperature tape. A different 3M high-temperature masking product should be selected according to the actual process temperature and exposure time.

Installation Guide

  1. Clean and dry the application surface.
  2. Remove dust, oil, grease and other contaminants.
  3. Apply the tape smoothly without excessive stretching.
  4. Press the tape firmly onto the surface to ensure good contact.
  5. Check edges and corners for lifting.
  6. Perform the painting or masking process within the recommended temperature and time conditions.
  7. Remove the tape carefully after the process is completed.

Storage

Store 3M™ Paper Tape 2214 under normal conditions of approximately 16–27°C (60–80°F) and 40–60% relative humidity, in the original packaging and away from direct sunlight.

For best performance, 3M recommends using the product within 12 months from the date of manufacture.

FAQ

Q1: Is 3M™ 2214 a high-temperature masking tape?

A: It is a general-purpose paper masking tape rather than a dedicated high-temperature masking tape. It can withstand up to 93°C (200°F) for 30 minutes for paint masking applications.

Q2: Can 3M 2214 be used for paint masking?

A: Yes. It is designed for non-critical paint masking and general indoor applications.

Q3: Is 3M 2214 suitable for automotive paint baking?

A: It should not automatically be selected for high-temperature paint-bake processes. If the process exceeds 93°C or requires extended exposure, a dedicated high-temperature masking tape should be evaluated.

Q4: What is the backing material?

A: The backing is crepe paper.

Q5: What adhesive does 3M 2214 use?

A: It uses a rubber adhesive.

Q6: Can it be torn by hand?

A: Yes. The crepe paper backing is designed for easy hand tearing.

Q7: What color is 3M 2214?

A: The standard product is tan.
